Mixed Relays come to San Diego! In honor of the International Olympic Committee announcing Mixed Relays as an official event in the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo, Life Time Tri San Diego is proud to be bringing the Mixed Relay event to Southern California!
Mixed Relay teams are comprised of four competitors. Each competitor will complete a super sprint triathlon course one right after the other. In other words, one team member will complete the super sprint triathlon course (swim, bike, run) before tagging the next team member who will then complete the super sprint course and so on until the fourth team member crosses the finish line. Timing begins when the first team member begins the swim and ends when the last team member crosses the finish line!
While teams in Tokyo will be strictly comprised of two men and two women, Life Time Tri San Diego is opening up the field for three different team categories:
- Traditional Mixed Relay: Two Men, Two Women (Racing: Female, Male, Female, Male)
- All Male: 4 Men
- All Female: 4 Women
Life Time Tri is excited to incorporate this format into the San Diego event. Open to first time triathletes as well as seasoned veterans, this racing format fosters teamwork and camaraderie in a previously very individual sport.
Awards will be issued for the top three teams in each category: Traditional Mixed Relay, All Male, and All Female.
Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 6:30am (tentative start time, may be adjusted)
Will be posted soon, but will mirror or closely follow the super sprint course.
Although traditional Mixed Relay is a draft legal event, as with all other events on race day, Life Time Tri will be following NO DRAFTING policy for this event.
Super Sprint and Sprint Relays
Looking to register for the traditional relay format where one person completes the swim, one completes the bike, and one completes the run? Not to worry, Life Time Tri San Diego is also still offering these options as well! You can sign up for these under Super Sprint Relay or Sprint Relay in the registration process.
